Regardless of our political views, we need to recognize the importance of an open Internet to the social fabric and economic interests of the world. Throughout the last few years, the telecommunications and entertainment industries have been trying to pass measures to restrict an open Internet. The Stop Online Piracy Act, also known as H.R.3261, recently failed. However, the Protect IP Act has quickly taken its place, and is strongly supported by lobbyists and special interest groups.
